Lewisville should have a television channel that people will actually watch.

Did you know that the city of Lewisville has a TV channel on Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS? If you didn't know, it's okay, you haven't missed much. Currently, we only have a few screens that look like power point slides. If you do decide to take a look at LVTV, you'll notice that the city uses Mix 102.9 as the background music for the channel. There are several ways we can improve LVTV, and several reasons to do it.

We need to make LVTV a better communication tool. We can do this by featuring compelling content that people will actually want to watch. The city decided on Thursday to cancel the Cinco de Mayo festival that was scheduled to take place on Saturday. Putting a slide on LVTV is a good idea, but it won't do much good if nobody watches. Once we feature better content, we'll have more regular viewers, and people will actually see these warnings. As Mayor, I would record a personal video message talking about the cancellation of the festival, as well as some information about the virus and what families can do to protect themselves.
While we're on the topic of important alerts like this, I'll mention that I think it's important that we use the best communication tools available. The city needs to have a text messaging system in place to communicate with the many residents that prefer that method of communication. Individuals can currently text the word SWINEFLU to 214-235-3336 to get mobile alerts about Swine Flu sent to their phones. I set this up only days ago and already have close to 500 individuals that have done so. A majority of citizens are less interested in getting their information via a monthly newsletter, as my opponent suggested, and are more interested in getting instant information via text messages. More on that later.

As far as content goes, Lewisville has an extraordinary amount of talented directors, producers, actors, singers, bands, and a host of other creative individuals, that are willing and able to provide compelling content for LVTV. We also have business owners that are doing their best to make ends meet in this tough economy. Rather than give the Mix 102.9 advertisers additional free advertising, let's promote our own businesses.

As mayor, I would be very involved in making sure we have a good mixture of wholesome, original content, important news about the city of Lewisville, and advertisements and promotions for our Lewisville businesses.

If you like some of these ideas, and you think Lewisville should have a mayor who is a big thinker and who wants to hear about your great ideas, than I need you to help me get elected. I am the only candidate running for mayor that is offering specific ideas and solutions. Please email this page to your friends and family and get them to the polls. We have a great opportunity right now. It's time for people to stand up and take notice of Lewisville. We have a few days left of early voting. Today is Friday, May 1st. You can vote until 5pm today. On Saturday you can vote between 9am-2pm. On Monday and Tuesday you can vote between 7am-7pm. Go to the Lewisville Library or City Hall and vote for Winston Edmondson for mayor!
